17th Annual Gibson County Sports HOF Banquet
Seven sports standouts and one outstanding basketball team will be honored with induction into the Gibson Co. Sports Hall of Fame at the 17th Hall of Fame banquet Friday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Bradford High School.
The public is invited to attend the dinner event catered by Terry McCaslin. Tickets including the meal are $15 for adults over 12. Children 6-and-under are free; children 7-12 are half price ($7.50). Tickets are available at high schools in Gibson County.

Gibson County Sports HOF Announces 2013 Inductees
The Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce the Class of 2013.
Bob Alexander (Bradford) – Honored posthumously as a contributor, Mr. Alexander devoted himself to his hometown of Bradford and community athletics. He played all sports at Bradford High in the 1940s and was a walk-on football player at Memphis State and played baseball at Lambuth College. As an adult, he combined his love for sports with a love for young people, initiating a Bradford Boy Scout Troop and a Little League baseball team in the 1950s. He helped build the Bradford Community Park and coached Dixie Youth League baseball in the 1960s and 1970s. He also served on civic boards and the Gibson Co. School Board.
Shane Cowan (Milan) – A multisport standout, Cowan earned 11 letters and is Milan High School’s only Mr. Basketball finalist and a leading all time scorer with 1,956 pts. He was first team All State, District MVP, Best of West Tenn. Player of the Year, led West Tenn. in scoring and was an Adidas All-American. In football he was first team All-Region and Hon. Mention All State at quarterback and Hon. Mention All Region at receiver. In baseball he was All-District and All-Region. Playing football and basketball at Univ. of Tenn. Martin, he was a Freshman All-American receiver setting 3 OVC conference records and finishing 13th in the nation in receptions. He played on the first UTM basketball team to go .500 in NCAA Division I.
Jenny Lannom Pritchett (Bradford) – A first team All State basketball player at Bradford High, Pritchett was the 2001 Class A Miss Basketball and scored over 1,600 career points. She helped led the Lady Red Devils to a 134-6 record and four state tournament final fours, including two state titles, and an undefeated 36-0 record in 2000. She was four times All-District, thrice All-Region, twice All-West Tenn. and All State Tournament. Earning a scholarship, she lettered at the Univ. of Tenn. Martin four years. A middle school girls coach at Univ. School of Jackson the past 5 years, her teams have a 97-13 record, including an undefeated 20-0 record in 2012-13.
Terry Martin (Humboldt) – One of Gibson County’s most accomplished basketball stars, Martin was the first player from Humboldt High chosen in the NBA draft, a 9th round pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1981. In college at Lambuth Univ. (Jackson, TN) he broke the school scoring record of 2,339 career points and started over 110 consecutive games. At Humboldt High he was first team All-State, first team All-West Tenn., District and Region MVP, and two-time team MVP, helping lead the Vikings to the 1976 AA state championship. Over three years in high school he averaged a double-double 17.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg.
Chris McCurdy (Gibson Co. High School) – A multisport standout at Gibson Co. High School, McCurdy earned 16 athletic letters in baseball, basketball and football, set school records and was a Wendy’s High School Heisman nominee. A quarterback for the Pioneers, he earned All-District honors three years and Most Valuable Offensive Player. He was a two-time All District baseball player, striking out 92 batters and setting a school homerun record. In basketball he earned All Region Tournament honors. He earned a scholarship and played baseball at Lambuth University.
Ricky Rogers (Medina) – A 1978 grad at Medina High, Rogers earned All-District, All-Region and Second Team All-State honors as a basketball star. Playing on the Hornets varsity team from eighth grade on, he scored over 2,200 career points and earned a reputation for clutch, game-winning shots. He averaged a double-double 20 ppg and 10 rpg as a sophomore. In later years he coached Little League baseball and Pal League youth basketball. He also refereed junior high and high school basketball for over 20 years and Pal League basketball several years.
Danny Truett (Trenton) – A versatile, multisport athlete at Trenton Peabody High School, Truett earned All Big Ten honors in football and went on to play at the Univ. of Tenn. Martin. He later coached multiple sports teams at Trenton Peabody and Union City. He started the Goodyear Relays in Union City, one of the premier track events in West Tennessee and developed state champions in track. As a principal and administrator in the Huntingdon school system, he oversaw state championship teams and successful athletic programs.
Bradford High School boys basketball team of 1965-66 – Coached by the late Joe Denning, the team was the first squad from Bradford to reach the state tournament in the modern era. The team was considered a small school success story, earning a state tournament berth when schools were not classified by size. Compiling a 16-7 record in regular season, Bradford then beat a strong Milan team for the District championship and finished region runner-up. Bradford advanced to the state tournament in Nashville but lost to a larger school team from Collinwood.
